When you need it

Photos straight off a camera

Names like DSC_4821 tell you nothing. A real name plus a number sorts and reads properly.

Preparing files for a website or a client

Consistent names make a folder look finished.

Fixing files that sort in the wrong order

Padding numbers to the same width is what stops 10 sorting before 2.

Questions

Why do the numbers have leading zeros?

Because computers sort names as text. Without padding, image10 comes before image2. Padding to three digits keeps them in the order you meant up to 999 files.

Are the images themselves changed?

No. The files are copied into a zip under new names and the contents are untouched — same pixels, same quality, same size.

Can I keep the original extensions?

Yes, each file keeps whatever extension it arrived with.

How do I control the order?

It follows the order you selected the files in. Sorting them in your file browser before selecting is usually the simplest way.

How it works

Every tool here runs on the HTML Canvas API inside your own browser. When you drop a file, it is read straight into memory, changed there, and handed back as a download. Not one byte goes over the network — which is why there is no upload wait, no file size cap, and no way for anyone, including us, to see your images.

That also means the tools keep working with no connection once the page has loaded, and the only limit on file size is your device's memory.
