How to compress to exact size

- Choose JPG or WebPJPG is accepted everywhere and is the safe answer for a form. WebP reaches the same target at higher visible quality, but only if whatever you are uploading to accepts it.

When you need it
A form refuses your photo
Applications, visa portals and school systems often cap uploads at a specific number and reject anything above it without explaining. Setting that number here is the direct fix.
An email attachment is over the limit
When several photos have to fit one message, giving each a ceiling keeps the total predictable.
A system silently truncates large files
Some older systems accept an oversized image and then store it broken. Staying under the stated limit avoids it.
Questions
How does it hit an exact size?
By searching for it. The tool compresses your image at a quality setting, checks the result, and adjusts up or down — eight times over, each guess narrowing the range. That lands within a few percent of the target from below. If even the lowest quality is still too big, it reduces the pixel dimensions and searches again.
Why is my file slightly under the target rather than exactly on it?
Because going over would defeat the purpose. A form that caps uploads at 100 KB rejects 100.4 KB, so the search always stops on the last result that fits.
What if it cannot reach the size I asked for?
It tells you, rather than handing back something that misses. Very small targets on very large images sometimes cannot be met without destroying the picture — try the next size up.
Can I do a whole batch at once?
Yes. Every file is aimed at the same target independently, so each one lands under it regardless of how large it started.

How it works
Every tool here runs on the HTML Canvas API inside your own browser. When you drop a file, it is read straight into memory, changed there, and handed back as a download. Not one byte goes over the network — which is why there is no upload wait, no file size cap, and no way for anyone, including us, to see your images.
That also means the tools keep working with no connection once the page has loaded, and the only limit on file size is your device's memory.
