Questions
Should I download PNG or JPG?
PNG. Gradients are exactly what JPG handles worst — smooth transitions come out with visible bands across them. PNG keeps them clean and gradient files compress well anyway.
What makes a gradient look good?
Two colours near each other on the colour wheel, with a difference in brightness rather than a clash of hue. Two distant colours tend to go muddy where they meet.
Can I use more than two colours?
Not here — two, plus the direction. Two is enough for a background, and more usually looks busy behind anything else.
What direction should I choose?
Top to bottom is the safe default because it mimics daylight. Diagonals feel more active. Radial draws the eye to the middle, which suits a centred subject.

How it works
Every tool here runs on the HTML Canvas API inside your own browser. When you drop a file, it is read straight into memory, changed there, and handed back as a download. Not one byte goes over the network — which is why there is no upload wait, no file size cap, and no way for anyone, including us, to see your images.
That also means the tools keep working with no connection once the page has loaded, and the only limit on file size is your device's memory.
